About The Artist
My decision to pursue photography as an art form grew out of my fascination with the sky as part of the landscape. I believe that both the land and the sky have things to say about the other, and both contribute to the overall composition. I purposefully chose to create images that give a sense of space and distance. If there's one thing I've learned, it's you have to take advantage when opportunities present themselves. It's very difficult to make beautiful images on a whim. You have to wait for the perfect conditions.
The method I used to create these images is known as HDR (or High Dynamic Range). This technique involves multiple exposures at different settings. This allows you to combine the images into an HDR image, which is an image with a lighting range that reflects real light, as opposed to ink or monitor display. Then you can tone map the image, which allows you to view all the shadows and highlights at once. I used this technique to balance the lighting of the brighter clouds with the darker landscape.
I have had a life-long interest in photography, and I purchased my first digital SLR two years ago. Since then, I have been experimenting with different techniques and different specialties. As you can see in this collection, I have had good luck with landscapes, and I hope to only get better in that respect. In the future, if I get the opportunity, I would like to experiment more with human subjects. So far, I have only had myself to photograph, and I am always in the market for a willing subject.
